FULL HARVEST MOON IN ARIES

ree

6-7 October 2025 @4:47 GMT

All Hail & Welcome to Ancient Footprints for my bi-monthly Astro article based around the new & full phases of our beautiful celestial satellite, the moon. I’m pretty sure we’ve all had challenges this year, whether personal or global. Now, we have entered the darker months of the calendar, the season of the witch. This season is going present a huge bubbling cauldron ready to boil over. There is much which we have placed into the cauldron over the past year alone & much which will finally come of it. Get ready for a few surprises as the tension rises. The planets are aligning to bring about a hard, slowing point as we approach the ‘all that will be’ part of the year. We have some planetary contenders amongst this moon phase & cycle, which I will explain the what & how these will affect October Full moon in Aries, in the astrology section. As ever I will also discuss the naming of the moons, discuss astrology & provide you with an astronomical events list for the coming month. For now, buckle your seatbelts, hold on to your staff, wand and broom because the atmosphere is about to erupt. Will you be able to keep your head around those who would see you lose your emotional balance? Or will you take the lead with wisdom & clarity? It sure has been a testing time for all of us.

Naming the Moons

Firstly, the moon is known by different names the world over. You might ask why we name the full moon phase & the answer is simple. The full moon is a symbol of fruition & to those who lived by agricultural means, the moon was named after flora or fauna indicating what was in season & what season they were in. However, an event, harvest or animal which was in plenty may not have been so in another part of the world. Therefore, the moon is named according to ecological events as well as geographical area. It may seem silly but to our ancestors this was a time to celebrate the fecundity of the world around them, it may have included spiritual inference.

First Nations people names for this moon are Travellers Moon & Blackberry Moon. The Montana tribes named this moon Gophur looks back moon. In Canada, the Inuit peoples called this moon Ice Moon. In China it is the time of the Kindly Moon. In India we are in the month of Ashvin where the celebrations of Sharad Purnima & Koigiri Purnima are celebrated.  The British Celtic Medieval names for this October full moon are Hunter’s Moon, Blood Moon & Seed Fall Moon. However, due to the close proximity of this moon to the Equinox, it is also known as Harvest Moon. The Druidic/ Ogham month still has us in the Month of Ivy the survivor, Gort until the 27th October where will will enter the month of the Reed. October, is also the month in which Samhain is celebrated. We should look on this moon as the moon of banishment, releasing all bad habits & banishing old ways of thinking. This moon carries the potential healing, protection, ancestral connection, scrying & farseeing.

Astrology

We are well into Libra Season, where the Sun is sitting pretty, waning away, helping us to find our equilibrium, because that is what Libra does! Libra is all about the big, beautiful, harmonious picture, encompassing the whole, we may find that we are being gently influenced by Libranisms!! That should give you an idea of what we may be up against this month! This is a cardinal, Air sign of the scales, ruling justice, love & money.

I always seem to chuckle when I read those 3 qualities back to myself :D. As a Libran, I do find my indecision almost laughable particularly around those subject areas. So, lets attempt to be decisive!

ree

Sun in Libra has been offering us an advantage in all of those areas. Venus is Libra’s patron goddess so Love, money & justice will have all been prevalent since the Sun entered this sign after Autumn Equinox / Mabon. We will continue to work with an understanding that we can find balance & harmony in all of those areas, if we allow the solar energies to persist in our lives. The Sun represents our ego, what we allow our friends to see of us. So we can find a balanced & an agreeable image to put out to others right now, showing a confidence in love, around money & being fair minded toward ourselves & others in whatever situation we find ourselves in.

Sun in Libra holds the balance & harmony expected from the sign of the scales of justice.  Libra is about our relationships with pretty much everything & everyone. As a cardinal sign, Libra is a starter of ideas & plans. Sun in Libra is all about the ‘others’ in our lives. This sign is all about, compromising within our relationships, the upkeep of our partnerships through discussion, compromise & balance.

ree

On the other hand, Moon in fiery Aries is all about the self, self-expression, leadership & fearlessness. This sign values independence & authenticity. Aries is also a cardinal action sign with fire & aggressive tendencies to be mindful of. Aries brings energy into a situation, to be used for the benefit of our relationships, but be mindful to not let aggression or anger manifest.

The Moon is in Aries - This fire sign is going to activate a lot of intensity. Aries is all about ‘me’. Now this may exert some ‘go get it’ attitude, but be warned, we are in diplomatic Libra season & we are being encouraged to think before we act or face regret. The moon represents our emotions, our inner personality, our reaction & what we need to find security. These qualities within will be heightened during full moon phase. Aries is all about the direct action, energy (force) & focus. Aries ruling planet is Mars. So we have fire, action, force & focus…lots of selfishness & drama, if we allow it to enter our lives. We may concentrate on what we want more at this time & this is a good thing if we have been neglecting an area of life.

Beware: The Aries - Libra polarity is on a relationship axis. Relationships are in the spotlight this Full moon. Libra is the sign of relationship harmony & balance. Aries is dynamic & independent. There may be things brought to light, a change in circumstance through intentions, which do not match up with the direction we see the relationship going. Use tact & think of one another’s feelings. Approach with care & caution.

As Full Moon surrounds manifestation of goals & finding the balance between energies of Sun & Moon, this lunation has its heart set on our relationship issues with ourselves & within partnerships, how we maintain them & whether we continue to move forward or accept stagnation & remain where we are.

Ask :

Have I reached a point of no return in a relationship within myself or another?

Is there still positive fiery energy surrounding or involving this partnership?

Are there any ways to find common ground to solve issues within this relationship?

How do I move forward from this point?

What do I need to let go of to maintain a steady flow of forward moving energy?

One big question which came to me during writing this article which may help was:

“How can I show personal courage, be self-assertive & lead my relationship into graceful negotiation, to find the balance we need to move forward with positive energy, focus & determination?”

This question simply encompasses the qualities of both signs in a positive manner. Not everything is doomed to end. Some things take time, patience, energy & effort. If this is something for which you still have fire in your belly for, it may be time to fight for it, rather than let it be. Those relationships which serve both participants with authenticity & equality are in balance, but will still need a regular check up every now & then to recalibrate to different circumstances.

This Full Moon is asking us to find balance between all that is Aries & Libra. All that is mine & all that is theirs, sharing & autonomy, in compromise. There may be things that we have been thinking & feeling that we need to air, there may also be ideas or solutions which have come out of the blue. Be mindful of your words as these ideas & emotions are still raw & haven’t been filtered through logic yet. So, beware of thinking before you speak. Still, have fun & do no harm.

In addition, Aries Moon urges us to take action, make decisions, instigate, start the new things we’ve been wanting to, within our partnerships. On the other hand, it also wants us to recognize where our energy is going & whether we use all of it or save some for ourselves. In this matter, self-care comes into play. This doesn’t just mean time-out for ourselves, but inclusion, assertiveness into the areas we have found to be lacking energy. This is especially relevant to becoming braver & more resourceful within our partnerships. Freeing up time for alone time or together time, doing those things you’ve wanted to instigate for a while now.

We are able to vibrate at a higher vibration now more than ever. It is imperative that we adhere to that notion now to avoid the pitfalls of relapse. Our unity is what makes us strong. Division makes us weak. These are the messages that we are being shown by the cosmos. It’s down to our reactions, choices & vibrations as an individual as to how this will all affect us on a personal level & in turn on the collective level. We must remind ourselves that what we put out into the universe will come back to us. This message is not for the feint hearted!

Planetary influences

ree

This month is full of the harder aspects we may face to find our balance.

Moon semi-Square Uranus in Gemini – A semisquare points to stress or friction, but not as consistent as a square. This means the influence is less intense but remains quite difficult to deal with nonetheless. Uranus, the planet of change, liberation & rebellion, is retrograde at this time. Retrograde means a slowing of the aspects & sometimes points to the darker side of the planet such as chaos & unpredictability. This slowing down of qualities associated with Uranus can bring some potential frustration, impulsivity & can make things worse than they are. It can bring restless behaviour which can lead to making knee-jerk reactions. Uranus in Gemini will give us introspection. We often look at this time of year to learn past mistakes & share our knowledge gained. This aspect also offers us movement in technology & in the way we communicate. So, a period of self -reflection is in order. We will see a combining of rebelliousness & the want for freedom from the mundane connected with compassion & heightened emotion. We may experience sudden mood changes which may create relationship issues. Moon semisquare Uranus Rx urges us to become inventive & use our authenticity, but it also requires us to maintain a constructive approach to any disruptive behaviours or emotions. This slowing down is offering us a period of time to get used to the changes we are going through. Its time to live smart with information & knowledge rather than rush into anything blindly. Small steps create big changes.

Moon Quintile Pluto in Aquarius – Quintile aspect points to desires to make structural changes, to organise, build & maintain. They point to an awareness of problems & solutions. Pluto in Aquarius is all about transformation of our personal & global structures. Challenge & change are really big themes. Moon Quintile Pluto in Aquarius ushers in a time & space for emotional & psychological change. It indicates being more open to experimentation, shifting the way we react to crisis. Self-care & self-expression are highlighted. Humanitarianism is also heavily highlighted, with our personal growth reflected within this structure.

Astronomy

Here are the astronomical events for the following month, leading to November’s Super Full Moon

October

ree

October 7 - Draconids Meteor Shower.

Draconids minor meteor shower produces approximately 10 meteors per hour, produced by dust grains left behind by comet 21P Giacobini-Zinner, first discovered in 1900. Draconids is unusual in that best viewing is early evening instead of early morning. Annual shower October 6-10 peaking 7th October. A nearly full moon blocks most meteors this year. Prepare to be patient if choosing to view this shower. Best time is early evening. Meteors radiate from the constellation Draco, appearing anywhere in the sky.

October 21 - New Moon.

Moon located same side of Earth as Sun, will not be visible in the night sky. Phase occurs at 12:26 UTC. Best time of month to observe faint objects, galaxies & star clusters as no moonlight interfere.

ree

October 21, 22 - Orionids Meteor Shower.

Orionids average shower produces up to 20 meteors per hour at peak, produced by dust grains left behind by comet Halley, known & observed since ancient times. Annual shower 2 October - 7 November, peaking this year night of 21 October 21 - morning of 22 October. This year is excellent for the Orionids as the moon will not be visible, so dark skies for a brilliant meteor shower. Best viewing after midnight. Meteors radiate from constellation Orion, can be seen anywhere in the sky.

October 29 - Mercury at Greatest Eastern Elongation.

Mercury reaches greatest eastern elongation of 23.9 degrees from Sun. Best time to view Mercury at its highest point above horizon in evening sky. Look west & low in the sky just after sunset.

ree

4 - 5 - Taurids Meteor Shower.

The Taurids is a long-running minor meteor shower producing only about 5-10 meteors per hour. It is unusual in that it consists of two separate streams. The first is produced by dust grains left behind by Asteroid 2004 TG10. The second stream is produced by debris left behind by Comet 2P Encke. The shower runs annually from September 7 to December 10. It peaks this year on the the night of November 4. Unfortunately the glare form the full moon will hide most of the meteors this year. If you are really patient, you may still be able to catch a few bright ones. Best viewing will be just after midnight from a dark location far away from city lights. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Taurus, but can appear anywhere in the sky.

November

5 - Full Moon, Supermoon.

Moon located opposite side of the Earth as Sun its face fully illuminated. Phase occurs at 13:21 UTC. This is 2nd of 3 supermoons for 2025. The Moon will be near its closest approach to the Earth looking larger and brighter than usual.

So ,from me, its farewell until next we meet. Enjoy the journeying over the next couple of weeks. My gratitude to you all for joining me. Please join me for another cosmic adventure on or around 21 October for another Astro: New Moon article, as we connect to Scorpio & the season of our ancestors as the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. Walk in love & trust the universe has your back. Bright blessings to you all

In gratitude, love, light & all betwixt
