Naming the Moons

Naming the full moon each month is an olde phenomenon indicating the changing seasons, agricultural & ecological events during the year. Given geographical variants these names differ dependant on geographical region. The Native American names for July’s full moon are Hay Moon, Summer Moon, Thunder Moon & Buck Moon. Buck Moon is named such because it is at this time of year that bucks gain their horns. The Montana tribes named this moon the Red Berries Moon. The Northern Canadian Inuit name for this moon is Dry Moon. Across the continents, the Chinese name for this moon is the Hungry Ghost Moon. A time where the veils of the worlds are considered thin, where familial ghosts may return to where they were happiest. In India it is the month of Srvana. In Britain, the ancient Celtic Medieval names are Claiming Moon, Wyrt / Herb Moon, Mead Moon. The Druidic calendar suggests that we are in the month of Holly, Tinne, from 8th July to 4th August. This is a feminine moon known as the Moon of Encirclement or the Moon of Polarity, with aspects of protection, Magick for animals, sex magick for us! On 5th August we will enter into the month of Hazel.
Astrology

Our beautiful celestial being will enter Full phase on 10th July. A Full moon occurs when the sun & moon are opposite each other. This aspect brings turmoil & tension between the two, ego versus emotion, external versus internal us, work versus home. They are in opposite zodiac signs and as such this could cause drama in our lives, depending on which energies we are attuned to. If we can keep ourselves within the parameters of the positive points of each, we keep the energies busy, where they affect us with minimal stress. However, this also depends on what other planetary influences are in play during this phase, which will be discussed further in this section.
Sun in Cancer - The Sun is all about self & ego, representing life force, consciousness, creativity, self-identity, self-expression & self- integration. In Cancer, we find ourselves to be cautious of self- expression, highly emotional as this is a water sign, we expect the ebb & flow. However, because Cancer is the sign of the Moon & is not very content to sit opposite its ruling planet, we may feel a little discomfort in our ego. We may have been or experienced possessiveness, nurturing, tenacity & withdrawal. This is our outer ego, the one which is seen by the outside world.

Moon in Capricorn - The Moon is our eternal feminine, linking spirit & matter, our inner thoughts, self- talk & expression, our past & intuition, mostly our emotional side which is kept internally by us & nurtured. At Full Moon we are at a state of abundance & fullness which can create polar feelings from overwhelm to serenity. We feel into our emotions, instincts, receptiveness, mothering nature & subconsciousness. The Moon in Capricorn is emotionally controlled; however, this moon will have exuberance at a higher level. It is a moon of self- reliance, dependability. Moon in Capricorn urges the need to be in control of family & environment. Beware of authoritarianism & absolutes.
The Full Moon encourages us to balance the polarities we are faced with during this phase. We are being asked to find the balance between our private lives & our public lives; home vs work; our home base, roots & nurture vs career, reputation & accountability. This polarity is asking us to find balance between attachment, unconditional love & origin vs Achievements, punishments, conditional love & goals. Finding balance between the two is essential to avoid chaos in our lives. Knowing our own limitations is key to understanding where to be more independent & where we may need help.
PLANETARY INFLUENCES

Full Moon Trine Mars in Virgo – This is a service-oriented aspect, analytical, practical, precise & patient. This may indicate a need or want to work hard to achieve self- mastery over crafts which we have been working on. It is also indicative of instigating creative solutions to long standing problems through analysis, organisation & preparation. Moon Trine Mars indicates both the Moon & Mars working in harmony, with both energies. This can be a highly emotionally driven aspect. Also highlighted is an ease in communication with others due to emotional maturity on one or both parts of contact. There may also be a wish to move differently into another field or direction, possible travel & finding a creative passion offering new adventures.
Full Moon Quintile Saturn & Neptune in Aries –
Full Moon Quintile Saturn in Aries highlights self- discipline, concentration, goal orientation. So, this aspect initiates time to attain goals & desires. It illuminates structure in life & plans as well as taking accountability with confidence. An interest in patterns, building or creating something is highlighted. It is also an aspect offering creative solution to problems. However, this may take time if a break or introspection is required to achieve the answers needed.
Full Moon Quintile Neptune in Aries – highlights imaginative, artistic, creativity focusing on relationships. It offers us sensitivity, empathy & learning from our connections. Illuminating passion, visionary mindset, inventive stories, music & arts. We may also revisit our long-term beliefs if we find a different & intriguing alternative. Vivid dreams may lead us to perceiving a picture of the world through a different lense which help us to develop a more mature approach to humanity. We may feel our sensitive self -becoming more aware & activated through how we concern ourselves with the world & its inhabitants.
Full Moon Sextile North node in Pisces – This is our ticket to our journey toward spiritual discovery, awareness & growth. Offering emotional support, healing, compassion, connection to the divine & a better understanding of ourselves & humanity. Releasing the material, stepping into the intuitive creative self. This aspect will help you focus on what you really desire in life for you & your surroundings. Here, we can blend our emotions, feelings of belonging & what is possible thereafter.
