All Hail & welcome to February’s Astro article, a blessed Imbolc to all who celebrate & honour this time of hope & innovation. We will be taking a look at naming of the moons, Astrology connected to this phase & into the next 2 weeks, our connection to tending to the end of one cycle of the zodiac & the start of a new cycle of cosmic energies which we are moving gently toward; the planetary influences affecting this phase & beyond. With all things themed with ‘new beginnings’, let us parade with Aquarius Sun through the cosmic interlude we call Full Moon in Leo.

Imbolc & Moon in Leo. The light of the Sun is now returning with the celebration at Imbolc to reflect a gentle resurgence in our lives. It is now time to consider what needs completing & manifestation ideas for the year ahead. Leo Full Moon is the penultimate Full Moon before completion of the Zodiac wheel & is a good time to look at what may need finishing off or those things we have put off completing whilst we have been delving into our inner sacred caves. We have been considering our innovations, intentions & next moves through the light of January’s New & Full Moon’s, in which we have held back on some forward motion, guided by the cosmic placements & retrogrades of the Planets. Leo Full Moon, is now encouraging us to be in a place of congruence in order to aid our manifestations to reality. This is a very auspicious time to get brainstorming with all elements of our desired manifestations for this year. Remaining in a positive mindset is key to success & BEing somewhere conducive to that vibration is essential to our thought process & innovations making it out of thought to forward motion & action. We will discuss the astrology of the Full Moon in Leo, but let us first discuss the international naming of our moons …

Traditionally, naming the moons has historical agricultural and geographical origins. This is an international phenomenon, which generally differs from region to region, due to varying ecologies and depending on seasonal changes. The February Full moon reflects the returning light of the Sun whilst still in the midst of the Winter. Native American names for this months full moon are Hunger Moon, Starvation Moon, Trapper’s Moon, Storm Moon, Tree Moon and Moon of Ice. Montana tribes named this moon Long Day Moon. Inuit peoples call the February moon Seal Pup Moon. In contrast, China names this moon Budding Moon, representing the budding of cherry trees. In India we are are in the month of Magh in which Magh Purnima is observed. Then over to the British Isles, the medieval Celtic name for February full moon are Storm Moon, Ice Moon and Snow Moon. The Druidic Ogham month is Rowan,(Luis). The Rowan was used by ancient Norsemen for protection. This moon is associated with the Goddess Brighid, the Celtic Goddess of the hearth & home. She is honoured at Imbolc, on February 1st each year. Brighid is a fire goddess offering protection not only to home & hearth but to the family unit, especially mothers. This month is a great time for initiations including self-dedications. Any magic concerning protection, personal power & success is recommended this month. It is also a favourable month if you practice Astral travel. This month sees many observations and celebrations in a variety of belief systems.

Full Moon is a time to reap the benefits & rewards of our set intentions from previous manifestations, namely from last new Moon. It is a time of heightened emotions, fruition, reaping the seeds sown at New Moon. In the case of this Full Moon in Leo, we will be looking forward to completion in some areas of life. This is because Full Moon Leo is heralding the ending of the old cycle. When we experience a Full Moon, the moon is in one sign and the Sun is in the opposite sign, the other side of the zodiac wheel. This can cause an imbalance in certain areas of our lives. The need to find balance is found within the qualities & aspects of the equation of Sun v Moon. This brings into focus our relationships with everyone & everything. It can cause disruption & tension in those areas. For example, the polarities of Aquarius Sun Versus Leo Full Moon pertains to our creative selves in so much as Leo presents us with personal glorification opposite Aquarius’ personal glory for the group. Where Leo wishes for us to shine our creative light to boost our ego through pleasurable endeavours, Aquarius wants nothing more than successful impersonal friendships or coalitions. Leo is proud, individual & intense, Aquarius Individualistic & values the group over ego. What we want v what we need, our work - home life balance will all be illuminated at this time. Armed with this info, how does this apply to the Full Moon phase?

This moon’s themes are Fresh starts, strength to make changes, new habits, healing conversations, emotional awareness, emotional stability, trusting our heart, endurance & momentum. This moon can be very revealing in the areas of hidden truths & finding new insights, if we can listen to the quiet voice of our own truth.

The Sun represents our life force, ego, our present, the personality we use in public. In Aquarius, this carries the qualities of revolution, inventiveness, humanitarianism, innovation. So, we may have been feeling hopeful & full of new ideas, raring to get into the year & to begin the new projects or journeying we have planned for ourselves. However, Aquarius can also be a ruthless component if not tethered. It can become irrational & inconsiderate of others. Aquarius’ skills, leadership qualities & progressive thinking can sometimes lead to extremism. Everything has a flip side to it. It pays to know the positives & negatives of each sign to understand where certain energies & reactions are originating from.

Furthermore, we will be experiencing a stelium in Aquarius with Sun, Mercury, Mars, Venus & Pluto aligned. This means that all aspects of each of these planets will be experienced through the lens of Aquarius’ innovation & inventiveness. As Aquarius is a team player, we can expect all of these planets to work well together, communications, travel & learning, love & finance, actions & transformation are all highlighted.

The moon is our representation of emotion, inner personality, intuition, nurture & past. Leo is fiery & creative, so there is a need to be aware of emotions over-spilling causing chaos or embarrassment. In a negative way this can manifest as aggression, anger, irrationality. In a positive way, gushing pride which can lead to embarrassment. So, a balance needs to be found to keep on an even keel emotionally. In addition, Leo is heart centred energy. Tethered to Aquarius’ humanitarian & innovation, we are looking at an optimistic, opportune time. Leo also offers us courage, determination, ownership, independence & leadership. We are being encouraged to own our hearts desires & reveal what our passions are, whether in our private or public spheres. A Leo Moon, with Sun in Aquarius wants us to strive forward using our gifts & talents, owning our story, rather than following the masses. The flip-side is Leo’s want for personal glory as opposed to Aquarius’ personal glory for the good of the group. This is where visualising the ‘bigger picture’ comes into play. Allowing ourselves to breath, pause & see clearly before we equate with the negatives, will aid in connecting to more positive energies that this Full Moon has to offer. Understand that what is happening to us as individuals is part of a bigger picture, where we are small cogs in the grander machinations of life. In this we must find balance. If we do not find balance between the two signs our luminaries are shining through, we could cause ourselves unnecessary chaos & imbalance. It is good to have this knowledge in our minds as we approach Full phase. It can help us recognise that which no longer serves our soul purpose. It can trigger a release to make space for the things we keep telling ourselves we want in our lives.

This Leo Moon is bringing us to heart-centred place which encourages us to walk & talk with confidence & self-respect. We are being encouraged to place ourselves in the midst of whatever makes us feel unique & enjoy it, carefree! Leo Moon wants us to come back to ourselves, shine a light to our inner & outer life, allowing the world see it as we elevate ourselves, be proud of ourselves & own our light! What’s more, this moon reminds us to take care of ourselves fully, in every way.
