All Hail & Welcome to a new Zodiac year! A new Moon in Aries means a new year of evolution, forward motion & encouragement to get us leaping toward Springtime, here in the Northern Hemisphere. As both luminaries take a seat next to each other in Aries, we find other, very close protagonists pulling up a chair in Aries & neighbouring Pisces too. An old cycle ends & a new cycle begins, revealing a fresh image of what we really want to manifest into our lives emerging from our minds, desires & dreams. We may have very big plans ahead of us. This New Moon in Aries is an extremely positive portal of manifestation energy. Big movers & shakers are on our horizon, along with the new beginnings of the Zodiac year & Aries New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse, which all indicate brand new beginnings to spring into action for. As Astro articles go, the end or beginning of the zodiac wheel & eclipse seasons call for an in-depth dive into what is going on cosmically. That said, I have not included some of the big movers this year as this article already covers a deep dive into the ending of this eclipse cycle. I will cover some of the bigger movers & shakers at a later, more connective date. And so, on to our beautiful New Aries Moon, partial Solar eclipse….

New Moon is a time of preparation, intention setting & new beginnings. Here we stand at the ending of one cycle & on the threshold of a new 28 days of lunar phasing & a new rotation of the zodiac wheel. It is a time of balance, hope & desire, dreams & intentions, of confidently allowing ourselves to feel into what we really want in our lives. This New Moon is asking us to take action on any area of life which is making itself prominent to complete its cycle & clear the way for the newness on offer to us at this potent time. We are being encouraged to step into our authentic self loud & proud but not obnoxiously! New Moon gives us a time of self expression & confidence to really put our desires into a space of manifestation. Like a garden patch which has been turned & prepared for seeding, the New Moon allows for us to plant those seeds of intent with hope in our hearts & minds. To make space for what is to come, we must first be sure to release that which is no longer of service to us, our paths & lives. This can be very difficult & we may get caught up in the process of acknowledgement to release & that’s ok because this is part of eclipse season, so all will be revealed in time & will resonate for at least 6 months.

Aries New Moon is a potent manifestation portal, one of the biggest & best of this year. As Aries begins the Zodiac year, it carries with it the real potential of new beginnings, a little like New Moon. This Aries New Moon gives us a new platform of our own making to stand upon. It allows us the hyper-focus we need to begin new projects, ventures, to take initiatives & opportunities to the next level. We now have the motivation & opportunity to bring our ideas to life. What is inside of us is being encouraged to come out & play. If we can encompass the positives of the Aries ram, being honest, brave & resourceful, we will find it a good time to commit to our personal goals with confidence. We can now make the foundational plans for what we wish to harvest later on in the year. If we can be confident & assertive without being harsh, we can take control of our lives. Aries learns through action & experience; wants us to express our truest self in an authentic way. This phase encourages us to become self-reliant & so our ideas can become tangible. In doing so we serve our inner selves by creating the fundamental happiness of self-sufficiency. If you find that you are in a rut, get out there & experience something new which breaks the old stagnation of ‘settled for routine’. It will usher in a newness that feels like a breath of fresh air & a taste of freedom.

Aries encourages us to re-evaluate our relationship to ourselves. With this energy we can make changes in our lives for the better & do it with great force. Aries is the 1st sign of the zodiac which means it’s all set for new beginnings. Action, authenticity & experience are key with Aries, so if we’re receiving intuitive nudges, take it as a sign to go for it & truly embrace the truth of BEing within what you are doing. Under the powerful eclipse’ New Moon energies we can set our intentions & really go for what we want. This Aries New Moon is a solar eclipse & will resonate with an ongoing, overarching theme which may have begun as far ago as April 2023, but will hint at themes which played out last September & October 2024. This maybe when we either began to look into our relationships with people, finance, love, began something new, were in preparation mode for birthing new ventures or perhaps bad habits, addictions & past wounds surfaced for attention & midwifing. Keep this in mind because whatever came to you at this time will likely play out during this lunation too.

Partial Annular Solar eclipse; a deeper dive

What is it?

How does it have an effect on us personally & collectively?

Eclipses; total & partial, this one is partial, annular. A solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves in-between the Sun & Earth, causing the Sun to darken as the shadow of the Moon passes over it. Sometimes this causes a ‘blackout’ of the Sun (Total), other times we will be able to see the Sun’s Corona (Annular). This is due to the differing distances of the Moon, perigee & apogee, from the Earth at various points during the year. Solar eclipse takes place at New Moon & Lunar eclipse at Full Moon when Earth moves between Moon & Sun. This Eclipse is New Moon partial Annular Solar eclipse in the sign of Aries. As both luminaries meet up for their monthly seat next to each other in the same degree, so the Moon moves into place to darken the Sun. This eclipse mixture is rare & potent. It indicates Karmic events & evolution between worlds.

What does this mean for us? Judy Hall puts this perfectly in her Astrology Bible, in which she describes eclipses,

“During Eclipses the light of consciousness (The Sun) is blocked out & the subconscious & collective forces (The Moon) are able to surface, or rational consciousness (The Sun) overcomes the irrational (The Moon). As such an eclipse can be the moment that repressed energies burst forth with great force, and ingrained attitudes & karma, whether personal or collective, are released.” (Hall J, 2019,The Astrology Bible, pp380).

This eclipse ends the cycle of eclipses along the Aries-Libra Axis. The cycle will highlight challenges, activity, flow, how we think & communicate within our relationships with all the things! isn't that exciting? Change all round!! This is the final chapter of this cycle, so will be drawing to a close on some of those areas highlighted throughout this season beginning from April 2023. The last time we experienced a series of eclipses along this axis was 1977; 2004-2006; 2013-2016. We may find themes are similar, however exact events will not reoccur. Let us compare the last series 2013-2016 to this past series from 2023 - 2025.

Aries is a fire sign that can offer us courage, strong emotion & resolve. Be mindful of crossing the boundary into Aries more volatile side, anger, destruction & egoism. The strong focus here is on Aries independence, courage & confidence concerning our personal plans including new beginnings. This eclipse will illuminate issues concerning our independence & facing the fear of something & still doing it. It goes with the territory of new beginnings & ideas which we wish to birth.

We may find that areas in which we have not been true to ourselves are highlighted, bringing us to a place of understanding the nature of change benefiting growth. In addition, self-assertiveness is being encouraged. We may find we are being asked to give something up in order to move into a place of receipt. Be mindful, healthy self-assertiveness comes from a place of confidently knowing that we are not hurting anything or anyone during this process. Harsh over-assertiveness comes from overconfidence & can be very displacing & hurtful. Avoid jumping to conclusions or acting without thinking.

Furthermore, the relationship to how we manage our connections, dependencies, personal independence & how we act or present ourselves is also being highlighted by the eclipse energy. It’s time to get real with ourselves, see where we are self-sabotaging, take action to get to where we wish to be in life.

We may feel in two minds 1. whether to jump up excitedly dance & have our voice heard or 2. perhaps reel in the energy to keep ego under control. Sit with it & feel into each action. Ask which one is best for the situation we are in. Be still & listen to intuition.

Overall, eclipses are portals of transformation. They take us into shadow realms where we can heal, rid ourselves of bad habits & behaviours, release the past & accept that endings bring new beginnings. All of this process helps us transform in a powerful, productive way. If we surrender to the flow & allow ourselves to let the cosmic tides to wash over us we will flow to a newer, fresher space of existence. However ,if we fight it we cause ourselves pain, stress & crises chaos in which the process may take control, moving us unwillingly toward transformation anyway. Resistance is futile!

Planetary aspects to New Moon Total Annular Solar Eclipse

New Moon loosely conjunct mercury retrograde (rx) – keep communications neutral. Communications may be slower in response than usual or meaning may go awry, so be mindful of words which can become direct & potentially over-aggressive to make a point. Hold back on major decisions in business. Have a good ponder on offers before an agreement is made. ruminate & formulate rather than making knee jerk reactions.

Sun, Moon & eclipse semi-square (minor, hard aspect) Uranus in Taurus – expect the unexpected! This aspect suggests friction or difficult to deal with situations, coming face to face with a problem & dealing with it once & for all, providing an area of potential growth. It indicates something which may have been brushed under the carpet, some time ago. This suggests challenges to security, a different financial outlook, tenable change. Thanks to Uranus in Taurus stirring the cauldron, there is a certain amount of volatility surrounding this aspect. Uranus likes to be direct, chaotic, uncontrollable & disruptive. We may feel; restless, changes in our perception, but not entirely sure where this feeling is coming from. Epiphanies may occur or actions from others may push us to a change in perception. This may attribute to a change in old habits & perceptions about ourselves, our limitations & capabilities.

March eclipse ends with an initiation of fire in Aries. This eclipse series has been refining our identity since 2023. Now & for the next 6 months will reveal much about the future for the new you.
