All Hail & welcome to the first cosmic journeying into a New Moon phase for the year of 2026. We have a New Moon in Capricorn the sea goat, the half goat, half fish constellation which helps us to climb high for a new, bigger perspective & dive deep to find our soul purpose in life.

We will need to harness some of the energies of the sign of the sea goat who can climb mountains to gain a higher perspective & dive deep into the oceans of the mind.

Capricornus, means “the goat” in Latin. The constellation represents a sea goat, a mythical creature associated with the god Enki in Babylonian mythology, later syncretised with the Greek deity Pan. The constellation is represented by the symbol ♑. Capricornus dates back to myth from the 21st century BCE,  originating from Babylonians & Sumerian texts. Both Babylonians & Sumerians called the constellation the goat-fish. During the early Bronze Age, Capricornus marked the winter solstice. In modern astrology, Capricorn still begins on the first day of astronomical winter/ Winter Solstice, for those in the Northern hemisphere. The Greeks associated the constellation with the forest deity Pan, who had the legs & horns of a goat. Pan was honourably placed in the sky by a grateful Zeus because Pan had come to the rescue of the God’s during several critical events. In reference to the myth, the astrological Capricornus is still often depicted as a goat with the tail of a fish.

New Moon is a time for setting our intentions within a new phasing of our beautiful celestial satellite. New Moon phase signals the ending of one cycle & the beginning of another moon phasing in a different astrological sign. This month we end the Sagittarius cycle & begin the Capricorn cycle. The energies of Capricorn reflect cardinal earth energies which we can harness to create & visualise our intended manifestations for the future we so desire. This is a good time for those who set annual intentions, to do just that or to reaffirm.

At New Moon, the Sun & Moon align in the same sign, conjunct. As this is the first lunar phenomenon of the year, sitting nicely in the sign of goal-oriented Capricorn, this lunation indicates a time of goal setting & deep seeking into what we wish to harvest later on this year. As a cardinal sign, Capricorn likes to get things going. By setting our intentions for what we wish to manifest, creating attainable goals that will open up a pathway leading to those desires, we will be in full Capricorn mode. First the idea, we play with it until we can visualise it. Then we use our powers of foresight to envisage the pathway which takes us there, by setting goals that will lead us step by step toward that end. We must put the work in to reach the goals that lead us to where we wish to be. Finally, we can visualise ourselves in our new lives with our manifested intentions, living that life. Along this route we must live the life we desire by doing the work toward becoming that wonderful new version of ourselves. Before you know it, the life we desire is already occurring. It is in the doing & becoming that we evolve the life we have intended. A vision board is always a great way to envisage & begin the year.

Focus is the general tool which helps us to decide which adventures we will embark on this year. Using tenacity, being resourceful & staying disciplined are also Capricorn qualities which are very useful for attaining our goals. In addition, Capricorn asks us to embody ambition, foresight, conscientiousness & our inner wisdom. All play a part in harmonising Capricorns’ offerings to us during this moon phase. All are given freely for us to begin our journey in a positive manner. Capricorn New Moon is also a time in which we can go head on, into serious life sort out, finding the order we need to create solid foundations to reap what we sow later in the year or toward Full Moon.

All Moon phase signs bring us various lessons & Capricorn will be teaching us to accept rational boundaries, made or placed are there to offer us the free reign we need in our lives, giving us independence & true focus on what needs to be done.

Planetary influences

There is a conjunctional line up in Capricorn involving most of the inner planets. This stellium concerns our personal sphere. Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars all line up as Pluto & Venus are in loose conjunction separated from the majority by position in early Aquarius. There is a huge opposition to Jupiter from Moon, Sun, Mercury & Mars, as well as a Trine to Uranus & a Sextile to both Saturn & Neptune, including Pluto & Venus also. I have broken this down piece by piece to bring you a summary of the effects this can have on us.

Moon, Sun, Mars, Mercury big opposition to Jupiter – This aspect is about bringing awareness to areas in which we over indulge, be that financial expenditure, food consumption, energy depletion & such. It urges us to use caution in these areas whilst maintaining ethics which are important to us. This is a realignment process for our internal & external spheres. It offers us a mindful approach in our developing personal growth, from experience & a desire for successful long-term goals, using the wisdom & grace we have gained through our experiences, slowing down to realise, re-evaluate & realign, we acquire maturity & balance in the highlighted areas.  The highlighted areas are; emotional security, truthfully realigning our ethics to our work ethic, re-evaluating our personal, family & relationship connections, safety & fulfilment.

Moon, Sun, Mars, Mercury, Venus & Pluto Trine Uranus - This aspect offers huge potential for creative support toward our personal growth. It affects our emotions, personality, activity & assertion, travel, communication, learning, love, relationships, finances. If we can add the prefix Creative, creatively, creativity to this equation we grow personally by thinking along those lines. In so doing, we can realign our ethics in every way & move forward in a positive, creative manner which fits us.

Moon, Sun, Mars, Mercury, Pluto, Venus Sextile Saturn & Neptune – This aspect reflects our desires, long term plans & creating our future reality. It encompasses strong ethical realignment, successful long term plans, personal growth, relationships, creativity & personal development.

It seems that present planetary apsects are all working in favour of a realignment to our strong ethical nature, enveloping every part of life so that we stand in our authentic presence as the person we are wanting to be. This is a work of internal & external evolution where everything needs to be evaluated & brought into line with how we feel & wish to live, how we perceive & how we are perceived, how maturely we develop our personal life in the areas highlighted. This really is a massive shift to change the things that no longer serve the person we have become & have been striving to be, for such a long time. Its all part of fearlessly becoming & coming home to ourselves in every way.

I think I’ve thrown the mic down now! With that said, I thank you for joining me on this very first New Moon of 2026. As we progress toward the end of the zodiac cycle & toward a new revolution of that wheel, may we realise that we all move differently & at different speeds. Nobody is expected to get up & hit the new year running. As new Year’s go, there are many endings & beginnings between Samhain/ Halloween, Yule, Imbolg & Spring Equinox, which really suggest a cyclical nature to each of our evolutions, as with the Planet we live on. Remember that a snowdrop may bloom in the snow but a cherry blossom blooms in spring time, as a sunflower during the heat of Summer. Be kind to yourself & your becoming.

My blessings to you all

In gratitude, love, light & all betwixt

Sheela
