The moon has entranced humankind since time immemorial. The appearance of the moon through the phases has intrigued many civilisations across the globe. Many peoples have used the moon phases as a guide on how and when to seed, rest and harvest plants, which a have been mainly used  in agriculture. Each geographical area has differing climates, therefore naming the full phase moon is often onomastic to crops which are in flower or ready to harvest. With this in mind we discover the differences. The Native American names for the November moon are Frosty Moon, Beaver Moon, Dark Moon, Tree Moon and Snow Moon, much like the Montana tribes who named it the Frost Moon. In addition, the North Canadian Inuit peoples named this moon the Freezing Mist Moon. All of these names are tangible given this time of year is often a time of the first frosts we see. The Chinese people call this the White Moon. In India the calendar is solar/ lunar therefore we are in the month of Kartika in which the observations of Kartik & Tripurari Purnima are witnessed and attended. The Ogham month is Reed, 28/10 - 23/11, in which working with spirit guides, divination, energy work & meditation are encouraged in addition to celebrating the ancestors and honouring the cycle of life, death & rebirth. The British medieval Celtic names for the November moon are Mourning Moon and Darkest Depths Moon. These symbolise the time of year in the thinning of the veil and Samhain having been celebrated, but on a personal level they indicate that we are in the month in which deep transformations begin to take place, in which we delve deep into soul work and face our shadow selves. Working together to tend to ourselves and allowing ourselves to feel out old hurts, states of mind, habits and emotions in an attempt to release and make space for that which is to come.

Astrology

We have a full phase moon in Taurus. The moon symbolises our inner personality, feelings, emotions and psychic awareness. This moon will offer us an earthy Taurean influence with patience, material and pleasure seeking & loving, determination and sometimes conservative aspects arising in our personal space and feelings. Our full moon is opposite a watery Scorpio Sun, the word ‘sizzle’ comes to mind! The Sun represents our external personality, ego and what others see of us. This Sun Sign offers us passion, emotion, willpower, determination and heightening psychic abilities, on the other hand it can sting if you are experiencing heat or dissent anywhere in your life. I can see the steam evaporating already, can you?

Let us just remind ourselves that this is November, the month of deep transformation, of nursing the deep inner wounds of our own and our beautiful mother Earth. With this in mind it is perhaps a good idea to prepare yourself for inner work to continue to take a deep dive into your psyche, to experience the cosmic alignments on offer and also the intensifying emotions, abundance and expansion available to us at this moment. This could mean retreating and spending time alone or seeking out counsel from a trusted individual, teacher or mentor, to allow yourself the time and help you need to understand the process you are experiencing. Take time for deeper self care and love and be grateful for yourself, honour yourself, you are worth it and you are worthy of all the abundance on offer with this moon. As with all full moon’s we find the need to release that which no longer serves our purpose. This month this means delving deep into our bad habits and obsessions, learning how to midwife them and when to release them. With this kind of inner work aggressiveness can rise up and there could be inner conflict which pours out into our lives and relationships. Be aware, be present, try to remain humble.

As we head toward the end of the calendar year, we find a sense of closure edging toward us. This year has seen many of us shed so much emotional, physical, mental and relationship baggage, preparing us for what is to come in 2020. Some of us are still transitioning through this phase, finding our way to express and feel our truths for what they are, taking action to put plans in place for next year. We have been encouraged to set realistic boundaries and to think about how our decisions affect others and our surrounding environment.

In addition, we have some planetary aspects to consider. As you are probably aware, Mercury is in retrograde, Rx. This months full moon is opposite Mercury Rx and can cause us some chaos, but with the Taurean Moon we may be able to take what comes at a steady pace with a stable mind. We can approach any communication problems with a passiveness. However, there could be a situation which could get out of hand, arguments and misunderstandings which result in confusion and anxiety spikes. This can be resolved after a quiet time of reflection. Give yourself and other parties space and respect that space. Learn to find what you seek from within yourself rather than from others, its all there inside of you, just allow it to be and accept for exactly what it is. As the Full moon is also trine Saturn, this lends patience and emotional strength to better cope with the mercury Rx/full moon opposition. This is a good moon for giving and receiving advice and showing respect to your elders and ancestors for guiding you.

Furthermore, The full moon sextile Neptune brings a heightening of feelings and can put you in touch with that side of yourself, others and your surroundings. Full moon trine Pluto can intensify the emotions. Saturn sextile Neptune brings about material gains, which are encouraged by the Taurean’s love of materialistic pleasures. This gain can come in the guise of recognition of spiritual pursuits or service to others. Finally, Mars sextile Jupiter brings courage, strength and good fortune to the fore.

Some advice for this moon. Be grateful, find the things which throughout the year you have been grateful for. They may be small things, they may be found in nature, in your home life, work life, family members, a short trip you took, a smile someone gave you when you needed it the most. Find them, remember them and honour them. You will find that showing and feeling gratitude sets the energies of this moons abundance flowing. Trust in the process.

Blessed be!
