Corn/ Grain moon
All hail & welcome to the August edition of Astro: Full Moon. Thank you for joining me on my journey through the lions gate this year! I hope you enjoy the journeying we do together & in solo. I begin by naming this months moons and offering you a non -bias list of events for the month ahead. I will discuss all things astrological for this phase and just beyond, how this may effect us and how we can cope with this phase. Lastly I will list all of the astronomical events for the month of full bloom August. So with out further ado....
Naming the moon
We begin, as usual with the naming of the full moons. Each month’s full moon tends to be named after an geographical natural event or agricultural phenomenon. Depending on where in the world you are, you may find that the full moon name is different from other places across the globe. Here is a round up of the names I have discovered referring to the August full moon. The native American names for Augusts full moon range from Sturgeon Moon, Corn Moon, Green Corn Moon, Dog Days Moon and Lightening Moon. The Siouan tribes of Montana called this moon Black Cherries Moon and the Inuit peoples of Northern Canada named this moon Swan Flight Moon. In China the August Moon is named Harvest Moon. In India we are in the month of Sravana & is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Celtic Medieval British named this moon Dispute Moon, Lynx Moon and Grain Moon. Druidic names can vary, however we are in the last days of the month of Holly, a masculine month which is about protection. We enter the Month of the Hazel, Coll, on 5th August - 1st September. The Hazel moon was called Coll to the Celts which meant ‘Life force inside of you’. Hazel moon is associated with the appearance of hazelnuts, wisdom, knowledge, divination, dowsing & dream journeying. Hazel moon is feminine by nature and often called the Moon of the wise or Crone Moon. The magical aspects enhanced by this moon include protection, fertility, manifestation & spirit contact. It is seen as a good month for creatives. Hazel moon is associated with holy wells & springs which contain the Salmon of knowledge.

Astrology
We are in fiery Leo season and things have been hotting up as we approach the peak of lions gate season. Our Sun in Leo highlights our ego and the present in which Leo adds leadership, individuality and self expression, grounding and a deep loving, charismatic sensuality. But beware the zodiac's royal drama queen whose playful nature could turn in on itself bringing out the negatives of impulsiveness, egotism , stubbornness, over-valuing the self & overcompensation of desire.
This months full moon is in the cardinal air sign of innovative Aquarius. The full moon represents our inner self, past events , emotions & feelings. Aquarius is the intuitive leader in science & innovation. Bringing in qualities such as humanitarianism, group leadership, intuition, truth & vision. This is a sign that likes to think outside of the box and is often at the forefront of rebellion. This maybe the time to put that energy to use. The negative energies of Aquarius are being gullible, extreme, unpredictable & temperamental.
A Full moon is when the sun & moon are opposite each other. This aspect brings turmoil & tension between the two, ego versus emotion, external versus internal us, work versus home. They are in opposite zodiac signs and as such this could cause drama in our lives, depending on which energies we are attuned to. If we can keep ourselves within the parameters of the positive points of each, we keep the energies busy, where they effect us with minimal stress. However, this also depends on what other planetary influences are in play during this phase. This month we have a hard square created to the luminaries by Uranus. A hard square brings in cross purposes to the arena in which opposite aspects may play out, even though we try to keep to the positives. So be prepared for things to start becoming a little chaotic & repetitive until we get it right. Uranus is the planet of Chaos , who enjoys demolishing traditions ushering in new and innovative ideas of modernity & inclusivity. Doesn't sound so bad does it? however, this could bring with it some serious temper tantrums before a big reveal. The bigger picture becomes clearer, more honest and obvious as the layers peel away, particularly when thinking is clearly outside of the box! Is this the end of the beige box syndrome which many of us have been conditioned to believe is our fate? Is this the beginning of heart led leadership?
Uranus governs Aquarius, along with Saturn. These two are asking us to act from a place of authenticity, by breaking barriers and doing it our way, personally or collectively. Acting from the truth, may be chaotic and cause wreckage, but also brings with it a sense of freedom & unpredictability. There may be unexpected surprises by this aspect and not all of it will be good! Progress & change through non-conformity may be on the cards. This phase is expecting big things of us, by encouraging strong leadership, whether that is globally, nationally or personally reclaiming our sovereignty. By asking us to be in a place where we like being us, different & accepting, no longer caring about what others think of our differences, this phase will introduce a certain amount of uncertainty, unsteadiness & will warrant some bravery.
That all said, Lions gate opened at the beginning of Leo season & with it the spiritual messages & downloads that many of us believe indicates a significant great awakening of minds & souls to higher vibrational energies, began. With Uranus in Taurus, we have a fabulous grounding energy to tap into whilst the all new, fresh & high vibration energies bring us to lions gate peak on 8/8. We are in a place of inter-connectivity in which we awaken by learning more, receive visions, dreams & messages for ourselves & the global community. We can be of help or hindrance, the choice is ours which energies we choose to accept & allow. With all this in mind, to make space for all of the new, we must feel ready to clear space within ourselves & our lives for all this sparkly freshness. Full Moon is a time of realising & releasing that which no longer serves our purpose, to clear & cleanse ourselves, lives & sacred spaces. Taking time to sit with what we feel needs to go and releasing it with gratitude for what it has taught us is necessary for us to thrive.

Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour at its peak. Produced by comet Swift-Tuttle, discovered in 1862. Best viewing will be after midnight, radiating from the constellation Perseus, appearing anywhere in the sky.
