Astro: Full Linten Moon in Earthy Virgo

Astro: Full Linten Moon in Virgo

6-7/3/2023 @ 12:40 UTC

All Hail & Welcome to Astro: Full Linten Moon in Earthy Virgo, Sun In Watery Pisces. Linten means 'lengthening', which seems apt given our days in the Northern hemisphere are getting longer as we head toward Spring & into Summer. The lighter part of the year can offer its fair share of goodness as we work with the seasons to manifest. There are some very big cosmic manoeuvrings this month. The like of which will give us a taste of themes to come over the next few years. As we march toward Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere & the Autumnal equinox in the Southern Hemisphere, we can feel the ground beneath our feet shifting into seasonal changes once again. Whether these changes we feel are of benefit to us personally or collectively is down to our perception & our own truth. Let us first meander through the historical phenomenon of the naming of our beautiful celestial satellite, the moon.

Naming moons

Ancient people all over the world have named the phasing of our moon. Many names are a reflection of what is occurring agriculturally or from a hunter gatherer perspective, in addition to the forces of nature that preside over us everyday. The Native American’s named the March full moon as , Crow Moon, Sap Moon, Worm Moon, Moon of Winds, Fish Moon, Chaste Moon or Death Moon. Montana tribes called this moon Sore Eye Moon. The Inuit peoples of Northern Canada named this moon Snow Bird Moon. The Chinese peoples know this moon as Sleeping Moon. Celtic Medieval British names for the March full moon are Plough Moon, Wind Moon, Linten (lengthening) Moon. The Ogham tree month varies depending on which calendar is followed. This month we are in the month of the Alder, fearn & Hawthorn, Huathe. I find in research that each of the trees at the very beginning of the cycle mostly represent new beginnings, rebirth, cleansing, purity & transformation. Alder covers the time of Spring Equinox & produces roots into the water of riverbanks, thus holding sacred space between the worlds of the heavens & earth. It is sacred to Bran who laid himself down, as a bridge, for his men, to cross the sea. Hawthorn is preparing us for Beltaine & the sacred union of the mind & intuition, encouraging a Spring clean of ourselves & surroundings. It represents the spirit of the wild & enchantment. Finally, the Coligny calendar informs us that this is Ogronios, Ice Time.

Furthermore, the Hindu calendar is lunar in nature. This month of Phalgun marks the celebrations of Holi Purnima & Phalgun Purnima. Holi is the festival of colours, celebrating fertility & good harvest. There are many stories surrounding the origins of this vibrant festival. Legend has it that King Hairanyakashyap demanded that the people of his kingdom worship him. However, his son, Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Vishhnu, & as such offended his father by his behaviour. The king attempted on 7 occasions to have his son killed. His failed attempts prompted him to call for his sister Holika, who was immune to fire, to sit with Prahlad in a bonfire in order to burn him. Ironically Holika was burned, Prahlad walked out of the fire unscathed by the event. Therefore, Holi is seen as a victory of good over evil. In addition, Holi is also associated with the playfulness of Radha- Krishna. Legend tells us that Krishna shot an arrow of love at Kaamdeva, to bring him out of eternal meditation. Kaamdeva was turned to ashes. This festival celebrates the sacrifice made by Kaamdeva. Holi is also pledge day, where we are encouraged to take responsibility of our own shortcomings & weaknesses, taking stock of mistakes & pledging not to repeat them. Holi is about ridding the self & life of negativity. This year Holi is 7-8th March. Purification, relationships & balance are themes which run parallel with this month’s full moon astrology, which you can read all about in the next section of the article.

To round up this section, here is a list of websites for April’s special dates of observation or spiritual significance:

Astrology

Full moon is a time of fruition of that which we set our intentions by at new Moon. We were discussing how we ought to end our zodiac year, we can continue to do so with the added visualisation of what we now want to see occurring for us over the next season & the most part of 2023. Full Moon is a very emotionally heightening occasion, so it is a good idea to know where & why we may be feeling particular emotional climax in certain areas of our lives. In addition, Full Moon is a time of taking stock of all the achievements we have made over the past month. It matters not how big or small we see these accomplishments, rather it is in the celebration of them we can see them for what they are, positive steps toward the change we need in our lives. So, we celebrate ourselves & all the dedication we have placed into our intentions for a brighter future.

The Sun shines it light through watery, intuitive & dreamy Pisces. The Sun represents our ego, the present, how we value & perceive ourselves, consciousness, self expression, what we present to the world. With Pisces Sun we are offered vision, spirituality, the infinite & disorder. Pisces governs how we apply ourselves to our spiritual health. As gentle, creative, sympathetic & romantic as Pisces Sun can be, there are always the negatives to be on the lookout for. Pisces can become moody & at times play the victim, be vindictive & pessimistic too.

The Moon represents our past, intuition, emotions, unconscious, feelings & upbringing. It is where we feel the most. In Earthy, responsible Virgo, we can see the need & indeed the want to get organised. Virgo governs the application of our daily routines, physical health & need for organisation. Think Spring clean in every area, no stone left unturned sort of organisation! In addition, Virgo governs work & there is a real feeling to complete the old projects & tasks we may have been avoiding, in order to forge forward with what we are now putting on our plates for this year. Furthermore, Virgo Moon wants us to find our passion & work on something we love. In this arena, we can love to do something even more, however if we do not like what we are working on the dislike can amplify. Be mindful! Implementation of a daily task which is amiable will enhance a healthy outlet & foster a new passion for us in the months to come. So find time to do what you love doing & set aside time to do it everyday. On the flip side of Virgo we are presented with a certain amount of stress. This can indicate a situation, person, event or can infer emotions which we have been holding in. Be aware! These emotions can explode onto the scene & create more stress. Try to keep to what Virgo Moon is asking of us by concentrating on allowing ourselves an external & internal Spring-clean, finding the balance we need to maintain a healthy outlook & body-mind balance. Anything that does not fit with our newness can be released or altered according to that which we are creating for ourselves. This does indicate a move toward cutting our ties to the past so that we can move on to the future we desire. We can do this as part of our Full Moon ritual release to make way for what is coming into our lives.

Full Moon wants us to find the balance between both the energies of Sun in Pisces & Moon in Virgo! In this case the polarity between work v service, judgement v acceptance, rationality v irrationality. Being sure that we do not over compensate either gives us the opportunity for balance between the two. Whatever comes to us will be in need of our attention & represents a chance to rectify areas of our lives which may be out of kilter with who we are or who we are becoming. This is a wake up call for our health & well-being, in addition to our habits & routines, the former going hand in hand with the latter. At this time, we may feel waves of intuition hitting us. Listen to them & act accordingly on them. Be real. This Full Moon balance is all about our healing & rethinking some of our more unhealthy habits. Try to avoid perfectionism, a Virgo trait, remembering that we can multi-task & get several things to an agreeable point, rather than concentrating on one thing to perfect. Perfecting one area can have an adverse effect on the other changes we need to implement at the same time. So a hand in hand approach is much more agreeable to finding balance at this time.

Looks like big changes are needed to kick-start the future of our dreams & intentions.

Planetary Influences

Full Moon occurs about an hour before Saturn moves from Aquarius to Pisces. The movement of the planet of Karma will give us a taste of themes to come from 2024. As Saturn will spend a short time here before retrograde takes it back to Aquarius until January next year, where Saturn will stay until it transits Pisces for 3 years. As Saturn is a generational planet, one of the bigger planets taking longer meanders through the signs, it will have an effect on us personally & collectively. Saturn governs responsibilities, karma & boundaries. In Aquarius we have experienced Saturn’s serverities, however in Pisces we will experience a more fluid motion in our spiritual, emotional, organic growth & visualisation spheres. It is a very exciting time for those who have visualised because the unrealistic becomes tangible with Saturn in Pisces!

Full Moon Trine Uranus, planet of chaos, progress & change. Trine is an agreeable aspect in which two planets work to enhance each other’s qualities. Uranus in Taurus dares us to be different, to express our true nature & to put ourselves out of our comfort zone. Uranus is unconventional & encourages us to discover answers in a different way to that which is our usual. We are being encouraged to find distinct ways to become more productive & serves us in our own quirky way, rather than to fit another persons expectations.

Venus conjunct Jupiter conjunct Chiron in Aries - The goddess of love sits next to the planet of expansion & the wounded healer; who healed his own wounds in order to be of service to others. This conjunction will play out in our relationships, particularly love relationships. This aspect triggers inner healing & can come for the people closest to us. It also indicates expansion in the area of relationships.

Full Moon & Sun Square Mars. This T-Square is a strong influence on our releases & alterations, as Mars in Gemini can play a part in learning & sharing of information.
