ASTRO: FULL MOON IN VIRGO OPPOSITE SUN IN PISCES

ASTRO FULL MOON IN VIRGO

24 February 2024 @ 12:31 GMT

All Hail & welcome to February’s Astro article, in which we will be taking a look at naming of the moons, Astrology connected to this phase & into the next 2 weeks, our connection to ending one cycle of the zodiac wheel & the start of a new cycle of cosmic energies; the planetary influences affecting this phase & beyond, finally Astronomical events for the month ahead. With all things themed with ‘new beginnings’ especially since Imbolc at the very start of February, let’s take a slow swim with Pisces Sun through the cosmic interlude we call Full Moon in Virgo….

Naming the Moons

Traditionally, naming the moons has historical agricultural and geographical origins. This is an international phenomenon, which generally differs from region to region, due to varying ecologies & depending on seasonal changes. The February Full moon reflects the returning light of the Sun whilst still in the midst of the Winter changeover to Spring. Native American names for this months full moon are Hunger Moon, Starvation Moon, Trapper’s Moon, Storm Moon, Tree Moon & Moon of Ice. Montana tribes named this moon Long Day Moon. Inuit peoples call the February moon Seal Pup Moon. In contrast, China names this moon Budding Moon, representing the budding of cherry trees. In India we are in the month of Magh in which Magh Purnima observed. Then over to the British Isles, the medieval Celtic name for February full moon are Storm Moon, Ice Moon and Snow Moon. The Druidic Ogham month is Rowan,(Luis). The Rowan was used by ancient Norsemen for protection. This moon is associated with the Goddess Brighid, the Celtic Goddess of the hearth & home. She is honoured at Imbolc, on February 1st each year. Brighid is a fire goddess offering protection not only to home & hearth but to the family unit, especially mothers. This month is a great time for initiations including self dedications. Any magick concerning protection, personal power & success is recommended this month. It is also a favourable month if you practice Astral travel.

This month sees many observations & celebrations which are included in the following non-biased list of websites, for February:

Astrology

Full moon is a time of fruition of that which we set our intentions by at new Moon. As Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac wheel, before the new rotation begins, the thought of how we ought to end our zodiac year should be prevalent. We can do so with visualisation of what we now want to see occurring for us over the next season & the most part of 2024.

Full Moon is a very emotionally heightening occasion, so it is a good idea to know where & why we may be feeling particular emotional climax in certain areas of our lives. In addition, Full Moon is a time of taking stock of all the achievements we have made over the past month. It matters not how big or small we see these accomplishments, rather it is in the celebration of them we can see them for what they are, positive steps toward the change we need in our lives. So, we celebrate ourselves & all the dedication we have placed into our intentions for a brighter future.

The Sun shines its light through watery, intuitive & dreamy Pisces. The Sun represents our ego, the present, how we value & perceive ourselves, consciousness, self expression, what we present to the world. With Pisces Sun we are offered vision, spirituality, the infinite & disorder. Pisces governs how we apply our selves to our spiritual health. As gentle, creative, sympathetic & romantic as Pisces Sun can be there are always the negatives to be on the lookout for. Pisces can become moody & at times play the victim, be vindictive & pessimistic too.

The Moon represents our past, intuition, emotions, unconscious, feelings & upbringing. It is where we feel the most. In Earthy, responsible Virgo, we can see the need & indeed the want to get organised. Virgo governs the application of our daily routines, physical health & need for organisation. Think Spring clean in every area, no stone left unturned sort of organisation! In addition, Virgo governs work & there is a real feeling to complete the old projects & tasks we may have been avoiding, in order to forge forward with what we are now putting on our plates for this year, tying nicely into the Piscean Sun which is the finale of the Zodiac. Furthermore, Virgo Moon wants us to find our passion & work on something we love. In this arena, we can love to do something even more, however if we do not like what we are working on, the dislike can amplify. Implementation of a daily task which is amiable will enhance a healthy outlet & foster a new passion for us in the months to come. So find time to do what you love doing & set aside time to do it everyday. On the flip side of Virgo we are presented with a certain amount of stress. This can indicate a situation, person, event or can infer emotions which we have been holding in. Be aware! These emotions can explode onto the scene & create more stress. Try to keep to what Virgo Moon is asking of us by concentrating on allowing ourselves an external & internal Spring-clean, finding the balance we need to maintain a healthy outlook & body-mind balance. Anything that does not fit with our newness can be released or altered according to that which we are creating for ourselves. This does indicate a move toward cutting our ties to the past so that we can move on to the future we desire. We can do this as part of our Full Moon ritual release to make way for what is coming into our lives.

Full Moon wants us to find the balance between both the energies of Sun in Pisces & Moon in Virgo! In this case the polarity between work v service, judgement v acceptance, rationality v irrationality. Being sure that we do not over compensate either gives us the opportunity for balance between the two. Whatever comes to us will be in need of our attention & represents a chance to rectify areas of our lives which may be out of kilter with who we are or who we are becoming. This is a wake up call for our health & well-being, in addition to our habits & routines, the former going hand in hand with the latter. At this time, we may feel waves of intuition hitting us or perhaps crises & an awareness surrounding ‘lack of’. Listen to what comes to you & act accordingly on them. Be real. This is the moment of awakening to ourselves & how we can intuit our emotional needs surrounding this event. We can look at how we react to these moments & how we can change the way we think/ feel about them. This Full Moon balance is all about our healing & rethinking some of our more unhealthy habits. Try to avoid perfectionism, a Virgo trait, remembering that we can multi-task & get several things to an agreeable point, rather than concentrating on one thing to perfect. Perfecting one area can have an adverse effect on the other changes we need to implement at the same time. So a hand in hand approach is much more agreeable to finding balance at this time.

In all of this becoming, we also need not to take on too much. Our energy levels are important factors in getting to where we want to be. However, we often ignore the signs of overwhelm, until its too late & we reach burnout before we know it. Listen to your body & take time out for self care. You are important to this life mission & needed to be at top speed for some of it. For now, go hand in hand tying loose ends & completing all the little things in small bite-size chunks, rather than racing to the finish line exhausted & unready for the next chapter. Its all In the preparation & planning, big organisation is a Virgo trait.

Virgo wants us to be sovereign in our own lives. She is the symbol of independence & self reliance. She is Goddess! We all have some of that impetus inside of us, all it takes is to remember!

Looks like big changes are needed to kick-start the future of our dreams & intentions. Good Luck with the processes.

Planetary influences

Full Moon In Virgo Trine Jupiter in Taurus This is an aspect in which the Moon & Jupiter work together harmoniously. Virgo Moon rules work & organisation, add to this the hard working & secure Taurus with Jupiter’s expansion & we have a lovely energy expanding into the areas of our lives where we are concentrating & using imagination. As we have discussed, tying loosed ends & getting jobs done, looking toward a vision of the future us, all fall under the spell of Jupiter’s luck , joy & expansion. Enjoy, but be mindful of falling prey to fantasy.

Sun & Mercury in Pisces opposite Full Moon in Virgo - Any opposition can bring about difficulties. With Sun, its about our outward personality & ego. With Mercury its mostly about travel & communication. So, be mindful of who you talk to, but also about what you are discussing. Mercury in Pisces has a few outward difficulties; gullibility, deception, lack of focus. Try not to linger in a lack of anything as this only invites a ‘lack’ of into life. Be mindful of boundaries. These are not always set for us to break through, rather to respect. Use intuition to communicate not emotions, as these are going to be high at Full Moon.
