All Hail & welcome! The turning wheel of the year is once again moving us out of the darker part of the year & along with that a change in how we visualise our lives, spirituality, deities, nature & of course how we treat & work with ourselves. There is much preparation to be done on a personal & spiritual level at this moment & so much to look forward to too. We have lots to discuss on this journeying. This is a very practical moon, so get ready to feel into the big release & reorganisation which comes with Virgo moon. Prepare yourself to truly let go & step into the new you. As it stands, we will also be experiencing the magic of a total lunar eclipse (TLE). I will discuss this later.
As my Astro articles go this one is lengthy & rounds off the zodiac rotation ready for a new beginning at Aries New Moon. We will have a meander through the naming of the moons which is an international, interfaith phenomenon. This will be followed by an international, non-bias list of websites which will give dates for observance & celebrations. I shall discuss this Moon’s astrological significance & list the next month’s astronomical events, right up to the next Full Moon, for you. You can skip to the part you want to read if this article is too long for you, but if you wish, grab a cuppa & take a seat. Enjoy the read & journeying with me, with my gratitude. Now, let’s take a slow swim with Pisces Sun through the cosmic interlude we call Full Moon in Virgo….
Naming of the moons

Ancient people all over the world have named this phase of our moon. Many names are a reflection of what is happening agriculturally or from a hunter gatherer perspective as well as from the forces of nature that preside over us everyday. The Native American’s named the March full moon as , Sap Moon, Worm Moon, Moon of Winds, Fish Moon, Chaste Moon or Death Moon. Montana tribes called this moon Sore Eye Moon. The Inuit peoples of Northern Canada named this moon Snow Bird Moon. The Chinese peoples know this moon as Sleeping Moon. Celtic Medieval British names for the March full moon are Plough Moon, Wind Moon, Linten (lengthening) Moon. The Ogham tree month carries across the month so we are now in the month of Ash (Feb 18th - March 17th), when we will enter the month of Alder (March 18th - April 14th). The cosmic tree, Yggdrasil was known to be the Ash. The Ash links the world of men & realms of spirit and myth, and conveyed understanding of the interconnection of all things. Two springs flow from its roots, sources of Wisdom and of Fate. Ash teaches that all life is interconnected on all levels of existence - past, present and future, spiritual, mental and physical: As above so below, as within so without, as the universe so the soul.
Alder covers the time of Spring Equinox and produces roots into the water of riverbanks, thus holding sacred space between the worlds of heaven and earth. It is sacred to Celtic deity, Bran who laid himself down as a bridge for his men to cross the sea.
In addition the Coligny calendar informs us that this is Ogronios, Ice Time.
The Hindu calendar is lunar in nature and this month of Phalgun marks the celebrations of Holi Purnima and Phalgun Purnima. Holi is the festival of colours, celebrating fertility and good harvest. Furthermore, there are many stories surrounding the origins of this vibrant festival. Legend has it that King Hairanyakashyap demanded that the people of his kingdom worship him. However, his son, Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Vishhnu, and as such offended his father by his behaviour. The king attempted on 7 occasions to have his son killed. His failed attempts prompted him to call for his sister Holika, who was immune to fire, to sit with Prahlad in a bonfire in order to burn him. Ironically Holika was burned and Prahlad walked out of the fire unscathed by the event. Therefore, Holi is seen as a victory of good over evil. In addition, Holi is also associated with the playfulness of Radha- Krishna. Legend tells us that Krishna shot an arrow of love at Kaamdeva, to bring him out of eternal meditation. Kaamdeva was turned to ashes. This festival celebrates the sacrifice made by Kaamdeva. Holi is also pledge day, where one accepts ones own shortcomings and weaknesses, taking stock of mistakes and pledging not to repeat them. Holi is about ridding the self and life of negativity. Detoxification is the theme that runs parallel with this month’s full moon astrology, which you can read all about in the next section of the article. To round up this section, here are this month’s special dates of observation or spiritual significance:-

ASTROLOGY

Full moon is a time of fruition of that which we set our intentions by at new Moon. As Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac wheel, before the new rotation begins, the thought of how we ought to end our zodiac year should be prevalent. We can do so with visualisation of what we now want to see occurring for us over the next season & the most part of 2025.
Full Moon is a very emotionally heightening occasion, so it is a good idea to know where & why we may be feeling particular emotional climax in certain areas of our lives. In addition, Full Moon is a time of taking stock of all the achievements we have made over the past month. It matters not how big or small we see these accomplishments, rather it is in the celebration of them we can see them for what they are, positive steps toward the change we need in our lives. So, we celebrate ourselves & all the dedication we have placed into our intentions for a brighter future.
The Sun shines its light through watery, intuitive & dreamy Pisces. The Sun represents our ego, the present, how we value & perceive ourselves, consciousness, self expression, what we present to the world. With Pisces Sun we are offered vision, spirituality, the infinite & disorder. Pisces governs how we apply our selves to our spiritual health. As gentle, creative, sympathetic & romantic as Pisces Sun can be there are always the negatives to be on the lookout for. Pisces can become moody & at times play the victim, be vindictive & pessimistic too.
The Moon represents our past, intuition, emotions, unconscious, feelings & upbringing. It is where we feel the most. In Earthy, responsible Virgo, we can see the need & indeed the want to get organised. Virgo governs the application of our daily routines, physical health & need for organisation. Think Spring clean in every area, no stone left unturned sort of organisation! In addition, Virgo governs work & there is a real feeling to complete the old projects & tasks we may have been avoiding, in order to forge forward with what we are now putting on our plates for this year, tying nicely into the Piscean Sun which is the finale of the Zodiac. Furthermore, Virgo Moon wants us to find our passion & work on something we love. In this arena, we can love to do something even more, however if we do not like what we are working on, the dislike can amplify. Find time to do what you love doing & set aside time to do it everyday.
On the flip side of Virgo we are presented with a certain amount of stress. This can indicate a situation, person, event or can infer emotions which we have been holding in. Be aware! These emotions can explode onto the scene & create more stress. Try to keep to what Virgo Moon is asking of us by concentrating on allowing ourselves an external & internal Spring-clean, finding the balance we need to maintain a healthy outlook & body-mind balance. Anything that does not fit with our newness can be released or altered according to that which we are creating for ourselves. This does indicate a move toward cutting our ties to the past, so that we can move on to the future we desire. We can do this as part of our Full Moon ritual release to make way for what is coming into our lives.

Full Moon opposite Sun wants us to find the balance between both the energies of Sun in Pisces & Moon in Virgo! In this case the polarity between work v service, judgement v acceptance, rationality v irrationality. Being sure that we do not over compensate either, gives us the opportunity for balance between the two. Whatever comes to us will be in need of our attention & represents a chance to rectify areas of our lives which may be out of kilter with who we are or who we are becoming. This is a wake up call for our health & well-being, in addition to our habits & routines, the former going hand in hand with the latter. At this time, we may feel waves of intuition hitting us or perhaps crises & a realisation surrounding ‘lack of’. Listen to what comes to you & act accordingly on them. Be real. This is the moment of awakening to ourselves & how we can intuit our emotional needs surrounding this event. We can look at how we react to these moments & how we can change the way we think/ feel about them. This Full Moon balance is all about our healing & rethinking some of our more unhealthy habits. Try to avoid perfectionism, a Virgo trait, remembering that we can multi-task & get several things to an agreeable point, rather than concentrating on one thing to perfect. Perfecting one area can have an adverse effect on the other changes we need to implement at the same time. So a hand in hand approach is much more agreeable to finding balance at this time.

Cosmically, there is a captivating eternal dance that our planet Earth moves through accompanied by Sun & Moon as alternate partners. Although, sometimes, they dance together as one. Total lunar eclipse, occurs when the Earth moves between the luminaries, forming a line. During the event the Moon's surface is shrouded by the dark, central part of the Earth's shadow / umbra. The remainder of the Moon is enveloped by the outer part of Earth's shadow/ penumbra, thus causing the reddened hue of blood moon.
Eclipses have been seen since time immemorial as harbingers of dearth, magical, cosmic events which can bring joy, fear, anxiety, excitement & surprising news. In addition, they are understood to be spiritual portals of transformation, through which we can utilise self discovery, reflection, intention, imbue spell work & find spiritual understanding & personal growth.
Furthermore, eclipse is a time of veiling & unveiling, the mysteries of life & viewing the bigger picture. Eclipse will veil what we need not see just yet, later revealing the missing information. The trick is patience & timing! What comes to us illuminated is for our immediate attention & is often something we may have neglected or perhaps feel needs working on or releasing. The rest of the work begins at the unveiling of more information or the missing piece needed to form an informed decision.
Total Lunar eclipse will help us along the journey of self-discovery. A Lunar eclipse will place a veil over the areas/ circumstance which we need not see, just yet, for a moment, so that we have the opportunity to concentrate on what we have before us, that may need working on or release. That said, Lunar eclipse also has the knack of unveiling the bigger picture too. Whatever comes to you highlighted or illuminated is for immediate attention. There will be heightened emotions, possible revelations & with these could manifest some frustration, disproportionate feelings, stemming from true emotion.
However, we do not have the full picture until after the unveiling process has occurred & what was unseen is revealed. With Eclipse the significance is upon one area of life, whilst another area is concealed. Therefore, we need to be mindful that there is another part of what is happening which is hidden or as yet unaccounted for, before we cast aspersions. We will learn what meaning this has for us over the eclipse season & moon phases. Remember, Eclipse energies are connected to the season they are in & the polarity in which they occur. The aftermath may be felt for up to 6 months & have the ability to change a lot of areas of our lives which may not align with our truest selves.
Ask yourself:
What is unveiling for me at the moment, coming to my attention & in need of effort, acceptance & understanding?
Can I work in a more fluent way with what is being brought to my attention now?
What are my obstacles & how can I navigate them with grace, successfully?
What needs to be released for me to move into a place which benefits my well-being?
Sun is in Virgo & Moon is in Pisces, which gives us the axis of health & service. With a TLE we can see both energies amplified & a need to find balance between the 2 is important for our well-being. This highlights the gentle balance of where we over give versus how we show ourselves compassion & self-care. It’s a gentle reminder to come back to self & restore before burn out.
In all of this becoming, we also need not to take on too much. Our energy levels are important factors in getting to where we want to be. However, we often ignore the signs of overwhelm, until its too late & we reach burnout before we know it. Listen to your body & take time out for self care. You are important to this life mission & needed to be at top speed for some of it. For now, go hand over hand tying loose ends & completing all the little things in small bite-size chunks, rather than racing to the finish line exhausted & unready for the next chapter. Its all In the preparation & planning, big organisation is a Virgo trait.
Virgo wants us to be sovereign in our own lives. She is the symbol of independence & self reliance. She is Goddess! We all have some of that impetus inside of us, all it takes is to remember!
Looks like big changes are needed to kick-start the future of our dreams & intentions. Good Luck with the processes.
PLANETARY ASPECTS INFLUENCING THE MOON PHASE

Full moon opposite Saturn - Lord of karma, taskmaster of the zodiac opposes Full Moon in organised Virgo. Embrace the structure & fluidity on offer, don’t fight it. Oppositions tend to create tension, but this one is encouraging us to set clear boundaries & taking charge of our own responsibilities. There may be a power struggle but this can be approached with acceptance & understanding. Our need for structure, stability & the want to creatively express ourselves are a matter of understanding & accepting the possibility of a different life style. This may indicate great change or maybe a little tweaking, depending on how far along this path of transformation each of us is.
Full Moon Trine Uranus in Taurus – planet of progress & change, unexpected surprises & chaos. A Trine indicates that these 2 will support & accept each other. This is the lesson carried with this aspect, that these 2 will work seamlessly together as an instigator for us to accept ourselves & others. Full Moon emotions, past, experiences. Uranus, unexpected changes. This aspect will offer a huge energy rush from an expected place , person, or even from within us. It offers us motion & movement toward ridding us of any stagnant energies, creating space for spontaneity & inspiration. The unexpected could come to mix it all up, but this will lead to personal growth. This is an invitation to take that leap of faith.
