All Hail & Welcome to Astro’s first Full Moon of 2024. Our beautiful celestial being will be in full phase 23 January 2024 @ 17:54 GMT. We know this moon as the Full old / Wolf Moon. This moon will be in the sign of Leo the regal, also the zodiac drama queen. Are we in for a real performance? Lets take a swagger into this moon, its phase & all that it has in store for us. Firstly, I will discuss the naming of the moons, an international phenomenon which indicates what flora or fauna were in season for our ancestors. I will continue by discussing the Astrology of this phase, followed by planetary influences, which is always a good indicator of energetic forces surrounding the mood of this moon. The January full moon is known by many name worldwide. Names for the full phase of each lunar cycle vary according to geography and agricultural events. The Native American names for the Full January moon are “Old Moon, Wolf Moon, Ice Moon, Moon after Yule and Winter Moon”. The Montana tribes named this moon “Hard Time Moon” and the native Canadians call it “dwarf Seal Moon”. In China it is “Holiday Moon” on the approach to Chines New Year. In Addition, the Indian Solar/ Lunar Calendar places us in the month of Pausa where the celebrations of “Shakambhari Purnima & Paush Purnima” are observed. Back on home ground with the ancient British Celtic and Medieval names for January Full moon are “Wolf Moon, Stay Home Moon (how ironic) and Moon after Yule” & the Celtic tree month is Birch, Beith, known for cleansing, rebirth, inception, flexibility & new beginnings. Finally, the Druidic Ogham Tree calendar places us in the month of the Alder, also part of he Birch family of Betulceae & known to be a month of transformation, guidance, balance & strong foundations. This month is known for its magical Birch workings to ward off evil, negativity and psychic attack. Furthermore, the Birch is also known as the Lady of the woods, associated with Goddess workings, fertility & protection. As with most beliefs January is known for its extra energies which when harnessed, support new beginnings and creativity.

Full Moon is a time to reap the benefits & rewards of our set intentions from previous manifestations, namely from last new Moon. It is a time of heightened emotions, fruition, reaping the seeds sown at New Moon. Full Moon is a time of endings & heightened emotions & In the case of this Full Moon in Leo, we will be experiencing a sense of completion in some areas of life. This is because Full Moon Leo is the last Full Moon of the zodiac wheel before we begin a new cycle. Our next Full Moon will be opposite an Aries Sun. When we experience a Full Moon, the moon is in one sign and the Sun is in an opposite sign on the other side of the zodiac wheel. This can cause us to be unbalanced in certain areas of our lives. The need to find balance is within the qualities & aspects of the the equation of Sun v Moon. This brings into focus our relationships with everyone & everything. It can cause disruption & tension being present in those areas. Although it is important to have strong self awareness, it is also just as important to avoid affecting others negatively with our ego. Understand that what is happening to us as individuals is part of a bigger picture, where we are small cogs in the grander machinations of life. In this we must find balance. If we do not find balance between the two signs our luminaries are shining through, we could cause ourselves unnecessary chaos & imbalance. It is good to have this knowledge in our minds as we approach Full phase. It can help us recognise that which no longer serves our soul purpose. It can trigger a release to make space for the things we keep telling ourselves we want in our lives.
There are several themes in play this lunation which may need us to pay real close attention to. Loyalty, possessiveness & boundaries can be easy or difficult to deal with. With our open & warm hearted approach we can make this easy on ourselves & others around us. All of these concepts can be difficult given certain situations, so be mindful & set boundaries which will help to make life easier, even if it means a discussion on reasons why. It is better for us personally so that we may have our stipulations for better mental health, a more conducive system allowing us to move on to where we wish to be, unfettered & unhindered by opposition or disdain. Avoiding situations that conflict with our beliefs is a good way to remain in our personal sphere, in a peaceful manner.

Full Moon Square Jupiter in Taurus - can bring revelations into our sphere. Be careful of exaggeration of truths on either end of this new found information, as Jupiter of expansion will do just that. We may also feel to take a break, which encourages the Leo trend of having some fun. The idea is to get the work done, then have some fun.
Mercury & Mars conjunct in Capricorn - encourages us to complete what we’ve got on the go so that we have acted on our ideas. Allowing our experience to bring us to a place of manifestation & disclosure. Finally to manage reflection & be aware of where we may be or may have stood in our own way.
Moon opposite Pluto planet of renewal in Aquarius - Isn’t this just perfect for this time of year? As we approach Imbolc, the celebration of new beginnings, a returning light into the world & life itself, the planet of new beginnings & transformation opposes the Full Leo Moon! What does this mean? Emotional challenges within our personal relationships. Now hold ya horses, where there is a challenge is also a pathway to growth.
