ASTRO FULL WORM MOON, PENUMBRAL LUNAR ECLIPSE IN LIBRA

Astro Full Moon in Libra

25 March 2024

@7 am GMT

All Hail & welcome to Astro: Full Pink / Worm Moon, penumbral (partial) Lunar Eclipse in Libra. I hope you have been navigating your way through the past couple of weeks with cosmic guidance, healing & compassion. We have a journeying to find emotional balance ahead with a Lunar eclipse amplifying energies of Air sign Libra opposite fire sign Aries. This is the 1st Eclipse of 2024, but the 3rd out of 6 along the Aries- Libra axis, which highlights our relationships with self & others. With all the Astro forces which are aimed at us right now, we may find we have to balance the fiery Sun of Aries which will shine its light opposite the Libran scales of justice. What happens when we blow on fire to fan the flames? It spreads & grows! So we are faced with a personal battle to hold our fire in a place of compassion & equilibrium. Will diplomacy battle with authenticity? How do we find equilibrium between fire & air? Are there other forces in play which could aid in healing or create conflict? Which areas of our lives are to be affected? A lot of questions, I know, so lets crack on with getting some answers…

Naming of the moons

Ancient people all over the world have named this phase of our moon. Many names are a reflection of what is happening agriculturally or from a hunter gatherer perspective as well as from the forces of nature that preside over us everyday. The Native American’s named the March full moon as , Sap Moon, Worm Moon, Moon of Winds, Fish Moon, Chaste Moon or Death Moon. Montana tribes called this moon Sore Eye Moon. The Inuit peoples of Northern Canada named this moon Snow Bird Moon. The Chinese peoples know this moon as Sleeping Moon. Celtic Medieval British names for the March full moon are Plough Moon, Wind Moon, Linten (lengthening) Moon. The Ogham tree month carries across the month so we are now in the month of Ash (Feb 18th - March 17th), when we will enter the month of Alder (March 18th - April 14th). The cosmic tree, Yggdrasil was known to be the Ash. The Ash links the world of men & realms of spirit and myth, and conveyed understanding of the interconnection of all things. Two springs flow from its roots, sources of Wisdom and of Fate. Ash teaches that all life is interconnected on all levels of existence - past, present and future, spiritual, mental and physical: As above so below, as within so without, as the universe so the soul.

Alder covers the time of Spring Equinox and produces roots into the water of riverbanks, thus holding sacred space between the worlds of heaven and earth. It is sacred to Bran who laid himself down, as a bridge, for his men, to cross the sea. In addition the Coligny calendar informs us that this is Ogronios, Ice Time.

The Hindu calendar is lunar in nature and this month of Phalgun marks the celebrations of Holi Purnima and Phalgun Purnima. Holi is the festival of colours, celebrating fertility and good harvest. Furthermore, there are many stories surrounding the origins of this vibrant festival. Legend has it that King Hairanyakashyap demanded that the people of his kingdom worship him. However, his son, Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Vishhnu, and as such offended his father by his behaviour. The king attempted on 7 occasions to have his son killed. His failed attempts prompted him to call for his sister Holika, who was immune to fire, to sit with Prahlad in a bonfire in order to burn him. Ironically Holika was burned and Prahlad walked out of the fire unscathed by the event. Therefore, Holi is seen as a victory of good over evil. In addition, Holi is also associated with the playfulness of Radha- Krishna. Legend tells us that Krishna shot an arrow of love at Kaamdeva, to bring him out of eternal meditation. Kaamdeva was turned to ashes. This festival celebrates the sacrifice made by Kaamdeva. Holi is also pledge day, where one accepts ones own shortcomings and weaknesses, taking stock of mistakes and pledging not to repeat them. Holi is about ridding the self and life of negativity. Detoxification is the theme that runs parallel with this month’s full moon astrology, which you can read all about in the next section of the article. To round up this section, here are this month’s special dates of observation or spiritual significance:-

Astrology

Full Moon

We have a beautiful full moon in Libra, with a Sun in Aries, the 1st sign of the zodiac. Happy New astrological year!!. We may well have been basking in the joy of new beginnings & ideas with the start of a new cycle, the Spring Equinox & the resurgence of the Mother Earth. The feeling of newness & the shine of Spring time is set to continue as are we, with a delve into the equilibrium & sensuality of a Libran moon.

Full Moon is a time of the culminating energies from that which began at New Moon. If you journal, you can look back at what was happening around 2 weeks ago & what intentions you set for the month ahead, but also look as far back as the last Libran New Moon we had in September which was also a solar eclipse, as a point of long term reference. Full Moon represents abundance, fruition & release of what is no longer serving our path & life. We may find ourselves naturally purging this month as Spring Equinox has now passed & a new astrological year has begun. With the Sun opposite the moon there are areas of possible angst surrounding that which we want v that which is needed, work v home. These internal oppositions can cause tension or inner conflict. In addition, Full Moon is a time of closure to that which is not resonating with our lives & journeying. A time to trust your instincts in deciding the next step.

The Libra Moon is a moon for adjustment & creativity within our relationships. Libra is governed by Venus & rules over love, values & finances. So these areas of our lives will be highlighted through the next 2 weeks. Love is a strong vibration within this moon phase, with lunar qualities peaking, our emotions & instincts heightening, meaning we are able to find a way through relationship challenges & read the dynamics in a more productive manner. Libra leads us into the realms of being able to adapt our view to looking from another’s perspective & enables us to show compassion to the others in our lives, without getting too carried away from ourselves. Be mindful here as it is easy to become totally enveloped by another’s actions & by normalising them as part of our own life. Remember that those we meet are often our greatest teachers of self & what we like & dislike about them is usually connected to a deeper meaning within ourselves. Of course this doesn’t suggest that we live in toxicity or that we accept what we find unacceptable or normalise certain behaviours. It does however, show us a reflection of ourselves which may need attention, healing or space to grow.

Ask:

Are my relationships equilibrious?

Are my efforts being reciprocated?

Where am I giving too much & not receiving enough?

Where am I receiving too much & not giving enough back?

How can I find balance?

What needs to be relinquished?

Where & how do I need to apply myself more?

What are/ have my relationships been teaching me about myself?

Libra energy is asking us to find the balance we need to recognise the difference between the old & new, what to keep & what to release. Full moon is a time in which many of our new moon intentions for a month ahead will come to fruition. Those longer term intentions which we have put in place may begin to show new shoots & small lessons which we will learn from during the growth process of the year. Full phase is also a time of an emotional peak, so we may feel more sensitive around this time, as well as more intuitive.

Penumbral Lunar eclipse occurs when a Full Moon is within 18° of the Lunar Nodes, which are the points where the Moon crosses the elliptic (orbit route). This is the 1st Lunar Eclipse of the year. The 3rd in a along the Aries - Libra axis which highlights relationships & opposites. This axis encourages us to look at our needs & wants but will also illuminate where we feel lack in our lives, within the Aries & Libra sectors. To comprehend with clarity we need to look at the qualities of each sign for a generalised understanding of how they may work in opposition to each other. Aries is a fire sign, which can make us blunt & even confrontational. Aries is a self assertive sign, with leadership qualities. This sign is courageous in a personal manner & prefers authenticity over intuition. This sign is excited by independence & personal effort. Libra uses logic & tact & is balanced in orientation. Libra knows that relationships need to be nurtured & maintained. For a beneficial outcome Libra will compromise, negotiate to find the balance which is synonymous with the sign of the scales. This diplomacy & equality will be carried out in a graceful manner as is with Libra.

So, we have a Fire & Air quality seemingly going up against each other, how to navigate successfully?

By realising the Moon represents water & emotion, we understand that the aforementioned qualities in opposition will likely play out within our emotional sphere . We are being encouraged to bring balance between our personal needs & those of the others in our lives. In addition, finding our independence within the relationship sector without losing ourselves. When we allow ourselves to be dependent when & where needed but also co-create relationships to be as close as we can have it, whilst maintaining our sense of self, we find our unique perfect within & without. As balance goes, this is a bit of a see-saw act & keeping everything perfectly balanced could prove to be difficult if we are needing time to ourselves or are feeling overly needy. My thoughts are to be as mindful of our own wants whilst keeping an ear on when & where our partners/ others in our lives need attention, without putting anyone’s feelings aside. We create imbalance if we do not pay attention to what is occurring. Be vigilant. Paying too much attention to one area & not the other can cause imbalance & will cause chaos is ones life.

Eclipse can have the knack of highlighting dysfunction in our lives. These areas will need attending. This can be a time of cleaning & clearing out old habits, ways of thinking, belief systems, addictions, relationships. Our own personal revelations will teach us the need to connect & create stronger relationships to ourselves & others. These are where we feel fulfilled & at our best version of ourselves. We are being encouraged to bring some things to an end with this Full Moon eclipse in Libra. This may be revealed to us upon or during the following weeks after Eclipse.

As this is the 3rd of 6 Eclipses under the Aries - Libra Axis, it is important to note that we may be bringing something connected to September’s New Moon Libra Solar eclipse to an end or that it will continue the theme begun in September, until October’s New Moon in Libra around the 2nd October. Again it may be that the October New Moon in Libra is also a continuum & resolution may come 25 March 2025 when we have New Moon in Aries. So, this is good to bare in mind as we enter this series & its themes surrounding our relationships, our opposite wants & needs & our autonomy & dependences.

Ask:

Am I being my authentic self within my relationships?

Do I become someone else when I am around certain people?

Do I like myself when I am around these people?

What can I do to be more my authentic self around these people?

The universe has our backs with acknowledging new terrain which we need to clear before we embark on a new journeying & is encouraging us to be honest with ourselves. We may find that an elder will guide us. We may need acknowledgement to delve into where we need to schedule more time for something which will be of real benefit to us, where we need to clear & restructure. Both Aries & Libra are cardinal signs which give us the impetus to drive ourselves to stand in a place of authenticity, to our truest nature. Anything which feels in need of attention or stifled may come into focus to be healed & released.

Ask yourself:

Where is there tension in my life?

How can I find balance in this area?

What needs to be released in order for me to move on?

How do I restructure this part of my life to enable forward motion, whilst being my truest self?

It is also important to re-evaluate our values along this axis. As we listen & learn, we grow & this can mean that our values change. Particularly in relationships.

Ask :

What do I value in a relationship?

Are those values being met?

What can I do to move closer to those values?

Is anything challenging these values?

How can I look at this challenge & learn the lesson I need to move forward?

Planetary influences

With all the eclipse energies flying around, it seems unfair to add to the equation. However, as planetary influences increase or decrease the powers of the luminaries by working with or against them, its important to be aware of where or why a certain energy is amplified or gone awry.

Full Moon Trine (beneficial aspect planets support each other) Pluto in Aquarius - gives us more passion, more intensity surrounding our relationships & how we react. We can use this in one of two ways. We can connect or disconnect. If we connect , we allow ourselves a deeper, more luxurious, juicy intimacy. We can strengthen & revolutionise our relationships. If we disconnect we may become insular & less able to cope with what is happening. We won’t be able to change the dynamic in such an enticing way.

Sun Sextile (Like Trine, Beneficial, ease & more energy than Trine)Pluto in Aquarius - Here’s the water I was discussing! Working together to create heated fluidity to our relationships. If we can get past the aggressive assertive of Aries ego, we reach the more hot water version of emotional Aries. Hot & steamy, works well with luxurious & juicy intimacy!
